I’ve always heard ’tis better to give than to receive.
But I’m not so sure.
I am sure it’s easier for me to give.
Giving keeps me in control.
Giving keeps me at arms length.
Receiving is different and is a far cry from taking.
Receiving means I must open up. I must surrender a bit. I must say yes to intimacy.
And through these three things – vulnerability, intimacy and surrender – I find real love. I find deep faith.
So I’m learning to receive better and thus find that happy rhythm – the rhythm of receiving and giving which keeps my cup overflowing.
I hope this for you, too. A compliment. Warm sunshine on your back. A bit of help with the dishes. Simply smile and say thank you.
