Word #96 of 100 – Interdependence

Word #96. Interdependence.

There is a paradox in an Acton community. In the early years, the focus is on gaining the practice, tools and skills to become an independent learner.

Then a shift happens. A high level choice is made by the learners to move from independence to interdependence. They realize as they progress through their journeys it is only through relationship, accountability and feedback within a healthy community that transformational learning occurs.

Our independence, then, is deeply rooted in community. Each learner is unique. Each will find a distinct calling. And all need each other to learn and grow. Interdependence is our lifeline.

Interdependence is a choice only independent people can make. – Stephen Covey
